3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheeler is ideal for tackling off-road terrain and provides a smooth ride for your infant. They are also simpler to push and maneuver than a four-wheeler and are especially suitable for those with fabric slings or seat units that are tightly positioned in the frame and deliver the most efficient shape and weight distribution.
Stability
A three-wheeler has great stability, which is the reason it's an ideal option for off-road walks (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat). They usually have large front wheels that can deal well with bumps and kerbs and rough ground. Some even feature a lockable front tire to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.
It's worth bearing in mind that 3-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than 4-wheeled models and this can mean that they can tip over more easily. The best 3-wheeled pushchairs have been built with the perfect geometry to ensure they remain stable in any condition. They should be able of turning on a dime, be easy to steer with one hand, and feature 360o swivelling front wheels which makes them perfect for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.

For extremely difficult surfaces you should look for a model with air-filled tyres also known as pneumatic tyres. These are designed to handle non-paved tracks and should cope with rocks, mud, and so on. Many all-terrain buggies have a swivelling front wheel that can be locked to provide stability when working on extremely rough ground too.
A three-wheeled stroller is a great option for those who run and love to speed up the hill. This is particularly true if you are planning to attach to a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It has a flat-reclining seat with 5-point harness and plenty of storage space to keep all your gear (plus an extendable 50+ sun hood). 3 wheeled pushchairs is lightweight and compact, and is suitable for use from birth. It can be used with a car seat or carrycot. It also allows for some moderate jogging, but it's not designed for serious runners.
Weight
If you're looking for a buggy that will take on tricky terrain, then you'll need one with big wheels. These are made to handle dirt, cobbles, and grass tracks with ease, while still providing an enjoyable ride. These are also great for jogging because they have a suspension built-in and are able to climb up and down kerbs. However, they're quite heavy to push.
3 wheeled pushchair is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy is very maneuverable because it has 16 rear wheels and a lockable front wheel. It comes with air tyres that require occasional pumping and can hold a child up to 3. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler was awed by the seat shape and she found it easy to drive with her three-year-old in the seat.
Another great option is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, with a movable handlebar and a hood made of high-quality with 50+ UV protection. It is also easy to move up and down kerbs and fits in a the boot of a car that is small. It can also be used as a pram that comes with baby car seat for newborns and toddlers.
Fabric slings are positioned in the frame and not on top as modular seats. This design has an lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you cannot underestimate how often you'll be doing this when you're a new parent!)
Seating
The capacity for 3 wheelers is quite impressive and there are a variety of different choices to choose from. For a newborn, there is the option to use the carrycot plus (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cosy and comfortable lie flat bed that can be used on and off the buggy), while older babies and toddlers can be seated in the parent-facing or world-facing seat that is large and padded and does have adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to recline completely, but can be adjusted to the lowest setting. This should allow your child plenty of headroom and space.
A sling made of fabric is also available. It has the advantage that it is located inside the frame rather than on top as a seat that is modular. This means that it has a lower centre of gravity, with a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push, especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath was impressed with the way this type of seat handled these challenges.
This type of buggy has an enormous basket, along with other beneficial features such as an extendable hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and a few innovative lights for visibility that can be placed on the front of the passengers for improved safety on difficult terrain.
If you're searching for a stroller that can grow with your family it's the sport(tm) is a world first, can accommodate a newborn and then be adapted to accommodate three or more children as they grow, all in one footprint.
Storage
The 3-wheeled frame is more sturdy and can be moved with just one hand. It's also more suitable for terrain that is difficult. However, 3 wheeler pushchair means that the shopping basket can't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.
A high-quality ATP will come with pneumatic tyres, a cushioned grip for added comfort, and a superb suspension. It is also able to take car seats and a carrycot which means you can use it from the time you are born.
The MFM reviewers noted that the 3-wheeler frames didn't pass through their doors at home or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure to verify the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded prior to purchasing.
Look for a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. seats once your family grows. They are the best of both worlds and can help you to save money in the future. The iCandy strawberry sport is among the top of them and can be used as a single unit from day dot and later converts into twin buggies once your baby begins walking.
Tyres
These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. They're commonly found on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to be "an outstanding ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres on the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to negotiate the kerbs and other obstacles.
These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain and require having their air pressure maintained regularly. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, and you should always have an repair kit and spare inner tube with you when you're out and out and about.
PU tyres are more commonly found on pushchairs as they are a cheaper option than air-filled tyres, but they are equally robust. You can recognise PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.
If you run your hand over the tyres, then you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels like it's moving, then it is a rubber or PU. You can also confirm whether your buggy has PU tyres by sliding the tyres over an even, clean surface They'll be able to roll easily and fit snugly into their wheel hubs.
Foam tyres can withstand the rough terrain of high-performance buggies. The drawback is that the foam can shrink and make your buggy feel less stable, as it loses its springy nature. You'll also find that these types of tyres can typically be noisy because they create a lot of noise as you turn and make your way around the town.
